Nearly 150 years lie between the creation of the collection of poems "Song of the Open Road" by Walt Whitman and the photographs of Aaron Siskind, both of which follow basically similar thoughts. Whitman sings of the freedom of mind as soon as one moves alone on a "free road", and Siskind, who freely looks at the road itself and, as he describes so excellently, finds forms there which he would not even have dared to dream of. "If you look very intensely and slowly, things will happen that you never dreamed of before."
(Aaron Siskind)
