Anna Jermolaewa does not commit herself to any one medium: she chooses drawing, photography, installation, performance, and video in a theme-specific manner, with the latter playing a major role in her work. With simple means she shoots short sequences, which she forms into haunting narratives by looping them. Through monotonous motion sequences and constant repetition, the banal and at first glance harmless tips over into the oppressive. Toys manipulated by an invisible hand, for example, transform them into menacingly unreal beings.
