Comment

Norbert Kopf observes nature and its phenomena through the flowers and plants in the Franciscan monastery garden in Salzburg. With his camera he draws a cycle of life, which ranges from the budding vegetation to withering and dying. The delicate first blossoms and leaves of spring promise the full bloom of summer with buds and fresh green: vibrant colours, full forms, power and opulence in the blossoms of poppy and rose, in the calyxes of calla. The passing of time is heralded with soft brown tones that blend into the summer colours, the shapes begin to dissolve.
For Norbert Kopf, the individual plants and flowers of the garden are the protagonists in the spectacle of vegetation; they are portrayed by him like pictorial works or ephemeral sculptures and shown in the context of their existential changeability.
