Michael Wesely places cameras in front of Claude Monet's pond in Giverny, thus documenting the change over the seasons. Like Monet, Wesely creates an ambiguous space in his series of water lilies; he looks down and focuses exclusively on the surface of the pond. The vegetation floated amidst the reflection of the sky and trees. For Monet, this abstraction was a process that lasted for years, during which he increasingly left the horizon line and the surrounding space. Monet transformed, so to speak, the image of a horizontal surface into the vertical surface of his canvas.
