Comment

The works Constitution #A-#N from the series After Image is an attempt to overcome the conflict between the rational and the irrational. As a person in a western society I live in and with this dualism. It is as if my inner being runs through a border that separates my will into a rational and an intuitive, headless one. I encounter the same kind of caesura in art. On the one hand it has to find an outer form and on the other hand it does not open up in a pure formalism. The schematic demands the indefinable, a fixed concept demands a continuation into the open. This dichotomy occupies me psychologically, formally, thematically and also politically: I am not interested in pointing out these limits, but in the possibilities that can arise from working beyond such opposites.
The abstract and constructivist figures in the After Image series consist of graphic elements of various origins: spontaneously created traces of various materials such as ink, dust, oil mixtures, clay on cardboard and photographic material. The latter comes from extracts of the backgrounds of pictures of psychiatric patients from textbooks which lose their individuality through classification into certain clinical pictures. I process these elements, dissect them into concrete forms, arrange them and disorder them again until the original boundaries between the concrete in form and content and the undefined dissolve. At some point they are no longer recognizable and their origin is no longer traceable. Then something new emerges.
