Since the end of 2006, Christoph Fuchs has been searching for the countless "fixed assets" in Austria. At the highest stage of development of these so-called spatial defence installations, there were more than 500 such fortified installations throughout the national territory. Some of these military bunker installations - known in Austrian jargon as FAn (fortified installations) - are now privately owned. They are used as storage facilities, club rooms or workshops, are dilapidated or are simply bought for the sake of preservation. However, most of these facilities are empty and sometimes even equipped with weapons. Just as secretly as the first bunkers, barriers and facilities were built in 1955 during the Cold War, they were operated until the 1990s and were constantly updated and just as secretly many of these facilities are now disappearing or are simply being recaptured by nature and perfectly camouflaged.
