Comment

Eckart Schuster's approach to photography is an experimental one. He came to it primarily as a member of the Graz artists' association “Junge Gruppe”, in order to be able to justify his photographic work artistically. Working intuitively, he uses a wide variety of techniques such as photogram, double and multiple exposure, solarization, extreme light-dark effects, coarse image screening, distortion, etc. to abstract his images and arrive at interesting pictorial solutions. Nature always remains the starting point. Portraits also play an important role in his work, which otherwise consists mainly of “photo-graphics”. In addition to numerous portraits of artists, the photographer also dealt intensively with self-portraits.
