Comment

While the spectator of Diane Arbus‘ Child with a Toy Hand Grenade in Central Park (1962) feels very uneasy due to the facial expression of the boy and the grenade in his hand, the face of the young hockey player by Arthur Tress is covered by a goaltender mask that makes him inhuman and terrifying. This impression is emphasized by the plumes of steam rising from the network of pipes in the New York underground.
