"Zug vereister Pfähle"
Stock, Chiemsee
gelatin silver print
signed, dated, titled (pencil) and artist's stamp on verso
Exceptional form of freezing water. In comparison, Schneiders at the same time shows the same motive as Keetman whereby he is focused on details. Keetman shows a large number of poles and creates a structure through the cut-out.
(Fritz Simak)
Peter Keetman moved to the Lienzinger-Müllerhof in Breitenbrunn on Lake Chiemsee in 1949. As a photographer, he was concerned with the newly founded Federal Republic. His minimalist black-and-white photography, close to graphic art, also transformed natural motifs of the Chiemsee landscape into expressive images. 900 metres is the distance between the Lienziger-Müllerhof estate and the Ganszipfl viewpoint on Lake Chiemsee with its little jetty from where Peter Keetman would swim a few laps nearly every morning or, in winter, where he would look at the ice and take photographs.
