Like Edward Steichen in his famous portrait of Gloria Swanson, Herbert List also uses a pierced curtain to surround this youthful act with the aura of mystery. In addition, the semicircular arch in the wall corresponds with the embroidery on the curtain, giving the entire picture a strict and solid structure.
